Head coach, Mike McCarthy and his staff returned to The Star this week after the NFL had made teams shut down their facilities the past few months during the Covid-19 outbreak.
With the NFL allowing team personnel to return to their offices this week, clubs around the league seem like they are on track to begin training for the season and start their schedule on time.
However, not everything will be the same. The Cowboys will most likely have to forego their 14-year tradition of having training camp in Oxnard, CA and have decided to hold it in Frisco, TX at The Star.
“As a staff we’re, planning for a full training camp, and we’re also planning for a training camp in Oxnard; we’re planning for a training camp in Frisco.” Said Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy. “We spent an enormous amount of time planning our first training camp together.”
The Cowboys will be in the Hall of Fame Game held in Canton, OH, held August 6th, against the Steelers making them one of the first teams to report in late July, but the organization has not given an official date for the start of their training camp. Most teams normally begin around the third week of July.
With coaches returning to facilities there is hope that players can return soon, but as of now Roger Goodell has made it clear that players cannot report to team facilities unless they are treating an injury.
The concern on many Cowboys fan’s minds is if the team will be ready. Being a new coach trying to implement a new culture and playbook during a worldwide pandemic is not ideal, but McCarthy seems positive about the situation:
“I am pleased with the amount of work that we have been able to accomplish. I think our coaches have been very creative and I think the communication and correspondence with players has been excellent.”
If the NFL will be able to start its schedule on time and if will fans be allowed at games still remains a concern, but with coaches returning we can all hope that things are trending in the right direction.
